Golden Ticket holder Margaret (Peggy) Jenkinson was the oldest passenger on the inaugural Borders Railway journey, aged 103, travelling with her niece Hilary.

Peggy was born at Lothian Bridge in a cottage beside the Sun Inn, in sight of the railway.

Apart from a short spell in South Wales during World War Two, when her husband Jimmy was on the minesweepers, she has lived all her life in Midlothian. Mostly in Bonnyrigg. She now lives in Newbyres Care Village, Gorebridge, where everyone is “very proud of her”.
