With 438 entries to consider, the judges have finally chosen the winners of the Borders Railway Golden Ticket competition.
A total of 168 winners have been picked, who will each get a ticket for themselves and a guest for a VIP trip from one of the four Midlothian stations on Saturday, September 5.
Midlothian Provost Joe Wallace said: “Many, many thanks to everyone who took the time to either nominate someone else or tell their story about why they deserve a Golden Ticket.
“The entries have been fantastic. We’ve heard from pillars of the local community to former railway workers and those people lucky enough to travel on the last Waverley Line train.
“Our judging panel, which included an independent member from the Midlothian Advertiser, had an extremely tough job as the competition was way over subscribed.
“Well done to everyone who has won.”
Winners will receive a confirmation letter by post from the council. Recipients must RSVP. The tickets will then be sent out later in the summer.
See this week’s Advertiser to find out who some of the winners are.
In total, 640 people will travel with Golden Tickets from the four Midlothian stations at Shawfair, Newtongrange, Gorebridge and Eskbank.
Other winners will include primary and secondary pupils who took part in a separate poster, story and video competition.
Further details will be announced about the four train trips.
The provost added: “An external events company is organising all the trips on behalf of Transport Scotland. Suffice to say, there will be entertainment, food, a goody bag and lots of fun.”
If you have missed out on a train trip then don’t despair as the council does have a reserve list of entrants if a winner cannot make the day.
The council is also helping organise four community events near the stations which will be open to everyone. Details will be finalised and shared in the coming weeks.
If anyone has questions about the trip they will be addressed in further correspondence from the organisers. However, if the matter is urgent, you can call 0131 271 3294.
