Gorebridge artist in frame for DAME prize

A former art teacher from Gorebridge is in the frame after scooping the DAME (Dalkeith Arts Music and Events) Spring Exhibition Award 2013.

David Allan (62) put his vast experience of painting to good use, impressing judges with a group of three seascapes.

After picking up his prize of a £25 token for art materials, he told the Advertiser: “It’s nice to get recognition and very heartwarming to know that people see something in my work.”

An art teacher at Lasswade High School for 13 years, David then moved to Dunbar Grammar School where he taught art for 20 years until ill health forced him to retire.
