Members of Gorebridge Bowling Club had a close shave last weekend to raise more than £3,000 for the ‘Movember’ appeal and local cancer charities.

After much itching and scratching the 18 who took part attended the club last Saturday for the great ‘Shave Off’.

The before and after pictures show the true ‘horrors’ once the facial hair was removed.

Local hairdresser Claire from Shear Expression volunteered to give them the professional touch, but was soon taking off hair from their heads as well as their faces. This was because David Allan raised a further £110 by agreeing to have his hair shaved off even though he was taking his wife out for a meal that night.

A club spokesman said: “We were amazed at the amount we managed to raise and feel we want to split the money between a main cancer charity and some of the local charities that help cancer victims cope through their illness.”
