As part of the Gorebridge Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme, a number of courses in traditional construction skills have been arranged again this year with Edinburgh College.

The courses are aimed at building professionals, contractors, apprentices, home owners, in fact anyone with an interest in traditional buildings who wishes to gain new skills and knowledge. The courses are about how to successfully repair and restore old buildings using the correct materials and techniques. The following courses are available: Making and using mortars, May 10,11 and 12; Traditional masonry repair, May 24, 25 and 26; Surface repair of stone, May 31 and June 1; Ashler pointing, June 2; External finishes, harling, May 17 and 18; Limewash and traditional paint May 19. On-site mentoring at Gorebridge, June 7, 8 and 9.

There is also a schools’ heritage awareness course where pupils can learn about traditional buildings and local history,every Wednesday from May 11-June 8.
