Projects involving young people in Gorebridge have won the lion’s share of The Coalfields Regeneration Trust’s £24,000 funding package for the Coalfields Community Futures Programme.

The funding awards reflect feedback from local people and recent surveys which highlighted youth activities and the local gala day as key priorities.

The Gala Day Association received £2,300 for new robes, crown and sceptre for this year’s Gala Queen Niamh Cunningham and her King, Aidan Winnick from Stobhill Primary School.

Gala committee chairman Dennis Campbell said: “We are delighted to receive the CRT’s financial support, especially after receiving such positive support for the gala day in the Community Futures surveys.

“Apart from Queen Niamh’s new robes, we will also be able to buy some much-needed equipment for this year’s gala on June 20.”
