APPRENTICE joiner Greg Haining was made redundant nearly two years ago, but he has now nailed a national award.
The young tradesman from Gorebridge beat off competition from across Scotland to take the top spot in carpentry and joinery in the Scottish Qualifications Authority and the Scottish Association of Timber Trade Teachers national competition.
Greg (21), is on a day-release course studying carpentry and joinery at Jewel and Esk Valley College.
He scooped the award for his production of a door fitting known as a gallows bracket, which he made as part of his course work.
