Gorebridge Gala Day takes place on Saturday, rounding off another fabulous week of fun events for people of all ages in the village.
The gala day procession will leave Gorebridge Bowling Club at 12.30pm, with the crowning ceremony taking place at Gore Glen Complex from 1-1.30pm, followed by fun and attractions for all the family, including shows, Laserquest, zorbs, quad bikes, face painting, pony rides, performances on stage as well as the massed pipes and drums of Gorebridge and Newtongrange pipe bands.
Gorebridge Gala Day Committee chairman Denis Campbell (41), added: “And for the under fives we have got a toddlers area this year for the first time. With a big soft play bus, a bouncy castle and a ball pool.”
As for the weather, Denis said: “Gorebridge Gala Day is renowned for not having very good weather. We can book everything we can for the day but we can’t book the weather. We just hopes it’s nice.
“So if it is inclement the crowning ceremony will be in Gorebridge Parish Church. We leave it as late as possible to make that call though.”
It’s not just one day of fun: “Wednesday (17th) is senior citizens’ night at Gorebridge Bowling Club, bingo and dancing, 7-10.30pm. So it’s not just a kids’ gala day, it’s everybody’s gala day,” said Denis.
“And we have Fabulous Friday. The fancy dress parade leaves Arniston Rangers’ car park at 6pm and heads down to Gore Glen. The shows will be there, we will have a tug of war, family races and lots of other stuff, on to about 9pm.”
