National Youth Choir of Scotland’s Midlothian Choir is inviting budding young singers to a free half-hour workshop at Newbattle High School.

Children from Primary 3 upwards are invited to the workshop on June 10, where they will take part in a range of fun and informal singing games and rhymes.

Lorna Rudden, National Youth Choir of Scotland’s area choirs manager, said: “Our enthusiastic and expert staff provide great singing experiences that are both fun and develop musical skills. Singing together has many other benefits too: make new friends, boost confidence, and build social skills.”

In the first year, the choir meets for an hour every Wednesday evening during term time, where they learn and sing together with other children their age. The musicianship programme helps to develop skills such as learning to read music, pitching, rhythm, sound production and solo singing.
