Community Pharmacy Scotland and the charity Action on Hearing Loss Scotland, formerly RNID Scotland, are joining forces to encourage people in Midlothian to take a hearing check that has been developed by the charity.
The check is designed to help identify hearing loss and suggest what action to take.
One in six people in Scotland – 850,000 - are deaf or hard of hearing. However, research by Action on Hearing Loss revealed that on average it can take 10 years before people acknowledge their hearing loss.
More than 1200 pharmacies throughout Scotland will display posters over the next six weeks explaining how customers can take the five minute check. With 84 per cent of people in Scotland visiting a pharmacist at least once a year, it is hoped that the campaign will act as an incentive. The hearing check is free online at www.actiononhearingloss.org.uk/hearingcheck or by phone on 0844 800 3838 charged at local rate.
