Funding for the new Newbattle High School has been included in the Scottish Government budget.
Midlothian will also receive a share of the £10.8 billion local government allocation and a £3 million boost to its housing stock.
The Newbattle funding has been welcomed by Midlothian Council.
Councillor Bob Constable (SNP), cabinet member for education, said: “The Newbattle School replacement project is within budget.
“With the necessary funding in place and the planning permissions agreed, we’ve reached another major milestone in this exciting project to deliver world-class education and community facilities for local people.
“Our development partner, Hub South East Scotland, can really get cracking on working towards starting site, this should allow a start to be made on site early in the new year.”
