Melville Housing Association, Midlothian’s largest registered social landlord, is to deliver 28 new affordable homes for the local area.
The association has entered into a £2.8 million deal with house builder Taylor Wimpey for the homes at the Cameron Gardens development in Bilston.
The properties will be a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and will help meet the recent increase in demand for smaller homes.
Melville Association chief executive Andrew Noble said: “Historically we have never seen a great demand for smaller properties, but this has changed with the introduction of the Bedroom Tax.
“These new properties will open up vital downsizing opportunities and wouldn’t be possible without the strategic support of Midlothian Council and funding from the Scottish Government.”
