Plans are afoot for another new housing development to the west of Midlothian, with proposals for up to 300 homes at Roslin in its early stages.

The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) is behind an impending planning application for the homes on the site of the former Roslin Institute.

The BBSRC told the Advertiser: “BBSRC will shortly be lodging a planning permission in principle application for the BBSRC-owned former Roslin Institute site for a residential development including footpath/cycleway connections and landscaped open space.

“BBSRC is currently working with the Roslin BioCentre, the Roslin Institute and the University of Edinburgh on future development opportunities at Easter Bush.”

BioCentre CEO Malcolm Bateman said he understood the proposals only affected the neighbouring institute site. The BioCentre has an 85-year lease.
