Penicuik Community Alliance (PCA) is to launch a further phase of its project to create a community hub, including retail, community and training facilities in the heart of Penicuik, tomorrow (Saturday).

“We started with an appeal to raise £82,000 from the town and friends further afield and got £93,000 by the end of March,” said Neville Suttle, acting secretary. “Now we want to finish the job and need further help.”

PCA are holding an Open Meeting upstairs in Penicuik Town Hall, starting at 10.30. The detailed drawings will be there for inspection and construction plan explained. There will be opportunities to question the steering committee before heading across the road to the old Nickel‘n Dime store for guided tours.

Site manager Colum Beagan will be there ready to note down offers of volunteering help with the project, including brickwork, plumbers, joiners and plasterers. Refreshments will be available.

There is still time to buy shares, £25 each, and application forms will be available.
