Research has shown that more than 3.5 million Scots have bought something and then regretted it, the top culprits being pets, holidays, gifts, furniture and musical instruments.
Carried out by Debt Advisory Centre Scotland, it shows how our minds can deceive us when we’re shopping - as the vast majority of Scottish people (82 per cent) have bought something and then regretted it.
Of those people, 18 per cent (more than 600,000) regretted their purchase because it cost too much.
When it comes to regretting unaffordable purchases, the top culprits for Scots are pets, holidays, gifts, furniture and musical instruments.
‘Couldn’t afford it’ was the reason Scots gave for regretting these purchases in 46 per cent, 39 per cent, 31 per cent, 27 per cent and 27 per cent of cases respectively.
