County residents joined millions of others throughout the UK in honouring the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Colourful bunting was on display throughout Midlothian as locals celebrated the historic milestone for Her Majesty.

In Bonnyrigg, around 20 youngsters at Bright Sparks Playgroup, which caters for children with additional support needs, threw a Jubilee party at Cockpen Nursery.

The children, aged five to seven and members of Bright Sparks ‘Out of School Club’, enjoyed party games and cakes.

On Saturday, specially invited guests, including Advertiser editor Jo Robinson, MSP Colin Beattie and Midlothian Council Leader Lisa Beattie, joined Lord Lieutenant Patrick Prenter CBE and some of his deputies for a Service of Thanksgiving at St Nicholas Buccleuch Church in Dalkeith.

The Dalkeith Singers performed during the service.
