Kippielaw ‘safe’ from homes threat

Campaigners opposed to plans to build 60 homes at Kippielaw are delighted that the council has removed the development from the local plan.

The Save Kippielaw group argued that the plans to change the land use at the 18 acre Kippielaw Farm to housing would destroy community identity by joining Mayfield, Easthouses and Dalkeith.

Stephen Liddell from the group told the Advertiser of his delight after Midlothian Council recently decided to drop the plans.

He said: “We are delighted that the councillors have decided unanimously to remove it from the local plan.

“We could not have asked for a better result.

“The whole process has taken about 18 months, from when we first got notification through the door. So this is the result of a long, hard struggle.”

Although happy that councillors dropped the change of land use at Kippielaw from the local plan, Mr Liddell is clear that the fight isn’t over.
