PROLONGED downpours have caused landslides and closed roads across Midlothian.

Rain throughout much of July saturated the ground, resulting in landslips blocking roads and cracks appearing on road surfaces.

The most serious disruption is on the A6106 at Lugton, a key commuter link from Dalkeith to the capital via Sheriffhall roundabout, which is likely to be shut for some weeks.
