Pupils and teachers from Lasswade High had their eyes opened during a recent expedition to Ghana.
The team of 24 youngsters and three adults were visiting the African country to help build school classrooms.
Sent to separate villages, one half of the group went to Essiam and the other Elmina.
On her return to Midlothian following the two-week adventure, S6 pupil Hannah Ferguson said: “We experienced a culture which could not be more different to ours and took part in activities including making drums, going on jungle treks and singing and dancing with the local people.”
