Lasswade school scoops inaugural award

Pupils at Lasswade Primary School have won a new competition by Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Local History Society to honour one of its founding members.

P5 youngsters at Lasswade, Hawthornden, Burnbrae and Bonnyrigg primary schools were tasked with creating a booklet of information on famous sports people including athlete Eric Liddell for the inaugural Dr Mary Noble Memorial Award competition.

Winning a silver cup and £100 for their efforts, Lasswade researched and presented work on Ken Buchanan, Gavin Hastings, Gordon Strachan and former pupil and judo champion Graeme Randall.

Born on February 23, 1911, Mary Noble was one of the founding members of the Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Local History Society in 1982.
