Let there be lights across Midlothian!

Midlothian’s countdown to Christmas begins on Saturday when the festive lights are switched on in Bonnyrigg, Loanhead and Dalkeith.

Penicuik’s will be switched on at a special ceremony on Saturday December 10.

Bonnyrigg’s celebrations start with Santa’s grotto and charity fair in Cockpen Church Hall from 10am to 4pm. Slater’s mini fun fair will run thoughout the day in Campview Road.

Events at Fountain Green, Loanhead, get under way at 3pm with the arrival of Santa on his sleigh. Entertainment will be provided by local bands and a choir of pupils from Loanhead’s three primary schools who will perform Christmas music.

Public carol singing at St John’s and King’s Park Church will herald the start of the annual switch on in Dalkeith.

The community event will be led by the church choir and pupils from St David’s Primary School accompanied by Dalkeith and Monktonhall Brass Band.
