Poppyscotland, the veterans’ charity, is calling on Midlothian households to light a candle to mark the centenary of World War One.
As part of a national commemoration, people are being asked to switch off the lights in their homes between 10pm and 11pm on Monday, August 4, and light a single candle.
The Lights Out initiative has the backing of Johnston Press, publishers of the Advertiser, the Royal British Legion and Marks & Spencer.
In Midlothian, there will be a special service at Crichton Collegiate Church, organised by Lord Lieutentant Sir Robert Clerk. This will be at the same time as the service at Westminster Abbey.
The service, which starts at 10pm, will take the form of a candlelit vigil. It will be led by The Very Revd Dr Graham Forbes CBE, assisted by Rev Alan Cobain.
