Electric storms have affected a number of homes in Midlothian.
North of Penicuik, lightning struck a wooden pole line at 10.20pm on July 20, leaving around 130 Scottish Power customers without electricity for 20 minutes.
A further 20 customers were without power until 2am while engineers carried out repairs to the damaged cabling.
Local business was also affected. A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “Last night’s heavy storm has affected some of the IT systems at our Straiton store. This has meant we’re unable to process some card payments however we can still take cash. The store and petrol filling station will remain open while we work hard to find a solution and we would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience this has caused.”
