Loanhead churchgoers are hoping to bring some festive cheer to disadvantaged children around the world.
Members of Loanhead Parish Church and St Margaret’s Church have filled shoeboxes with toys, toiletries, pens, soft toys and other gifts to be sent to youngsters in Africa, eastern Europe and central Asia.
Organised through Samaritan’s Purse, more than 1.1 million shoeboxes were distributed last year. Members of the Loanhead churches, schools and community filled more than 250 shoeboxes this year.
Irene Allan, who organises the appeal on behalf of the parish church, was delighted with the response from local people.
“On Wednesday more than 50 shoeboxes arrived from Loanhead and St Margaret’s Primary Schools,” she said. “Then a similar number arrived from Paradykes Primary. Far more than I expected! It was great to see the young people of our community and so many others being willing to help in this way. My thanks go to all of them.”
