A campaign has been launched to save what is said to be Scotland’s oldest ex-servicemen’s club from closing its doors for the last time.

Loanhead Ex-servicemen’s Club is struggling due to a falling membership and poor attendance by existing members.

In a bid to widen the club’s appeal, a fundraising race night was held last Friday and there are plans for a dinner, dance with comedy act next month.

Club president Frankie Christie told the Advertiser: “It is pretty bad. It is the worst it has ever been.”

The cash boost from the events is being used to tide the club over as it fights to survive.
