Loanhead eyesore to be put on market

A FORMER Loanhead care home faces demolition to make way for housing, it was claimed last week.

The deteriorating state of Mayburn House prompted Loanhead and District Community Council to raise its concerns with the owners, the Church of Scotland. Vandals have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to the empty property.

The Kirk’s estates manager David Reid said the Hawthorn Gardens building would soon be advertised for sale.

In the meantime, he gave assurances that work would be carried out to the garden and the timber boards over the windows would be painted matt black.

Mr Reid said the Church acquired Mayburn House 100 years ago this year and it had served many purposes, including as a residential care home. This was run by Crossreach, the social work division of the Church.
