A loanhead firm is at the centre of Scotland’s selection for a major research and development centre for offshore wind turbine technology.
Mitsubishi Power System Europe’s Centre for Advanced Technology will be created in the Edinburgh area in a development which will see investment of £100 million over five years.
Key to the deal is the aquisition of Loanhead-based Artemis Intelligent Power and the safeguarding of 25 full-time jobs.
AIP, based at Edgefield Industrial Estate, has been working with the Scottish Government and Scottish Development International over a number of years to secure the announcement.
MPSE hopes to create up to 30 extra high-value engineering positions at AIP in 2011. Over the next five years, the development of AIP and the new centre could create up to 200 jobs.
It is understood there are no plans to relocate AIP from Loanhead. The new centre’s location has not been identified.
