A WASTE company has been fined £1,650 for burning waste at its site in Loanhead.
Caledonian Industrial Limited, trading as Caleco Waste, pleaded guilty to disposing of controlled waste by burning waste wood, including wooden pellets and wooden fencing, and contravening a condition of their waste management licence at their site at Eldin Industrial Estate, Edgefield Road.
A report was sent to the Procurator Fiscal by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency after complaints were received from members of the public in early December 2010 regarding waste being burnt at the site. On December 9, the company burnt wood, straw and other material without authorisation to do so.
Caledonian Industrial Trading Limited has a waste management licence authorising the keeping and treatment of household, commercial or industrial waste in or on the site and stating that no waste should be burnt within the boundaries of the site.
