200 in bid for jobs at new Penicuik store
An "amazing" 200 people applied for one of 12 full and part-time jobs at Penicuik's new Lidl store.
The supermarket is due to open in the town centre at the end of September.
A Lidl spokesman told The Advertiser: "There will be 12 full and part-time jobs created out of 200 who applied, which is just amazing."
He added that the finishing touches to the store, which has a 1063-metre square sales floor, were "coming along nicely".
Daily delivery
The store, which will be managed by Jodie Caird, will also have parking for a total of 68 cars, including five disabled parking bays.
The store will be open Monday to Saturday from 8am until 8pm, and Sundays from 8am until 6pm.
The spokesman added that the store would be stocked from one daily delivery bringing fresh fruit, vegetables, bread and dairy produce.
All traffic to the store will use the newly-constructed roundabout on St Kentigern Way.
Lidl UK, which has a German parent company, has been operating in Scotland for 15 years.
The Penicuik supermarket will be its 91st Scottish store.
