Abduction fears spark police search in Newton Village

A full-scale police search has taken place in Newton Village amid fears a young girl had been abducted from a play park.

The tiny village came under the glare of a helicopter spotlight as police officers with dogs, helped by members of the community, scoured the area for several hours on Sunday, August 29.

Investigations

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said there had been no evidence of an abduction or reports of a missing child, but stressed investigations were continuing with officers visiting schools in the area.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "There was a helicopter hovering over the village and searchlights – they seemed to be heading towards one of the fields."
