Bike theft heartbreak for brave Rosewell cancer girl

A brave young girl who battled leukaemia has been left heartbroken after her treasured bike was stolen.

Jillian Neil (11), who was set to complete her gruelling treatment this week, was left in tears when the good quality bike was pinched from the garden of her home in Prestonhall Crescent, Rosewell.

Mum Margaret (39) is appealing to whoever stole the bike on Thursday, June 11, to examine their conscience and hand it back.

It is a blue and white GT Aggressor with mudguards and a tear on the seat.

The theft has been reported to the police and the family is offering a 50 reward for information which leads to its return.

Margaret told The Advertiser: "The bike was bought because during the chemotherapy, one of the drugs weakened the joints, mainly the knee and ankle.

"It was suggested the cycle movement was of great benefit during the treatment to stop her joints from seizing up."

Margaret has put up posters of the bike in Rosewell, Bonnyrigg and Poltonhall, in the hope someone knows where it is.

Rangers mad Jillian – who used her bike to get to and from Rosewell Primary School – now has to walk while her friends cycle.

Margaret said. "When she came home from school on Friday she said, 'it's not really about my bike, I couldn't believe someone would do that to me'."

Anyone with information on the bike's whereabouts can call Margaret on 0131 440 1469 or Bonnyrigg Police Station on 0131 663 9221.
