A DAMNING report into how Midlothian Council awarded £37,500 grant aid towards the completion of a car park that is “not fit for purpose” has been made public for the first time.

Commencing in November 2010, an internal audit was formally requested by the council’s Director of Corporate Resources John Blair, to investigate the award of funding made to Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic Junior Football Club (BRAJFC) from the Gourlaw Coal Regeneration Community Fund.

The cash was to create a car parking area between Dundas Street and Lothian Street, Bonnyrigg, which would be available to the public.

On Tuesday, the findings of that investigation were laid bare before a meeting of the council’s audit committee.
