Bonnyrigg volunteers are just PHAB!

editorial image

Volunteers who help out at the Lasswade High School PHAB (Physically Handicapped Able Bodied) Club are pictured at a recent night out in Bonnyrigg.

The team members pair up every Wednesday with buddies who are physically handicapped. Activities include arts and crafts, computing and cookery.

Sheila Johnston, who has been involved with the club for more than 30 years, said: “We really appreciate everything the volunteers do – having all these youngsters adds an energy to our weekly meetings at the school.”

The club proves invaluable for those who are living independently for the first time, as it teaches them how to cook and surf the internet. Members also play games that help to develop motor skills.

To find out more about the PHAB club, visit Lasswade High between 6.30-8.30pm on a Wednesday night.
