Bonnyrigg man claims he was searched by police for 'having limp'.

A disabled Bonnyrigg man is demanding an apology from police, claiming he was stopped and searched because he has a limp.

Charles Corbett (27), who suffers from severe rheumatoid arthritis and struggles to walk, was making his way along the town's High Street with his five-year-old son Aaron, who was cycling his bike, on Sunday morning.

Approached

Mr Corbett, who lives with his partner Helen in a mobility home at Raes Gardens, said he was approached by two officers in a patrol car who stopped and asked him why he had a limp, before proceeding to search him without explanation.

Willingly

A police spokesman said: "Following reports of an incident at Lloyds pharmacy on High Street, Bonnyrigg, police officers apprehended a man in the area to undertake further enquiries.

"The man was questioned in connection with the incident, which had happened nearby. He willingly assisted with enquiries, and was subsequently free to go."
