Community payback order for Bonnyrigg man

A MAN needed stitches in his hand after damaging a door at the home of his former partner.

Ian Balmer, 16 Waverley Terrace, Bonnyrigg, was ordered to carry out unpaid work in the community when he appeared for sentence at Haddington Sheriff Court on January 23.

Balmer (33), admitted willfully and recklessly damaging property at 15a Stoneybank Gardens North, Musselburgh, on November 10 last year, by punching a window pane in a door.

He also admitted failing to comply with a special bail condition, barring him from entering Stoneybank Gardens North, and a third charge of using threatening or abusive behaviour and kicking a door at the same address.

Sheriff Peter Braid placed him on a community payback order, requiring him to complete 160 hours of work within the next six months.

Referring to background reports prepared for the court, Balmer’s solicitor, Susan Gibson, said her client was “very ashamed” to find himself in this position.

At the time of the incident, she said he was upset about the breakdown of his five-year relationship with the complainer.
