Creative cash boost for Pathhead

PATHHEAD is set for some exciting times ahead after being named as one of Scotland’s most creative places, collecting an award of £50,000.

Although the village only has around 500 houses, incredibly 15 of the nation’s most successful musicians call Pathhead home, including singer Karine Polwart and accordionist Martin Green. They formed the Pathhead Music Collective seven years ago and have turned the locals onto music in a big way with regular concerts and classes.

Last week at a ceremony in St Andrews, collective members picked up the Creative Places Award for places with fewer than 2500 inhabitants, and the cash prize that comes with it from Creative Scotland.

One of the collective, Sophie Bancroft (47), revealed their plans for the prize money.

She said: “The money is going to allow us to expand what we are already doing within the community. Both through education and the bands.

“Secondly, we will increase the number of concerts we run in the area and we plan to put on a couple of one day festivals as well. Not only will this bring great music here, it will also bring business into the area.

“And, we are hoping to have a bit of time between the collective members to create some new music.”
