Dalkeith store set to bring 200 jobs

A Morrisons supermarket earmarked for the former Dalkeith bus depot site is set to create 200 jobs.

Detailed planning consent is in place at the Eskbank Road site, and the supermarket giant is working with Midlothian Council with a view to opening in Spring 2014.

The company has a policy of recruiting for new stores within the local community.

The company’s development executive Richard Bakes said: “Our ambitious plans for Dalkeith will benefit the local area in a number of ways.

“The site will provide new, local jobs and enhanced choice for shoppers, whilst we also hope the development will act as a catalyst for further regeneration.”

Midlothian MP David Hamilton (Lab) said: “This area has been a blackspot for employment for a number of years and so the news that 200 local jobs are to be created is just fantastic.”
