Dalkeith butcher beefs up his skills

Dalkeith butchers Shaws Fine Meats was delighted to see one of its employees receive a Modern Apprenticeship Award in meat and poultry processing and butchery retail skills.

Paul Hart received the certificate for his qualifications from assessor Gordon Newlands, Scottish Meat Training, at a recent presentation at the Carfraemill Hotel in Lauder. Paul’s apprenticeship includes the respected SVQ level two qualification, which proves that the standards of work expected in the industry have been met.

Mr Newlands said: “These Modern Apprenticeships are funded through Skills Development Scotland but both the employer and the employee time is required to come through the programme successfully. Much credit should be paid to Shaws and their employees for the considerable commitment they have made to reach this achievement.”
