Debt in Midlothian is year-round worry

CHRISTMAS is blamed unfairly for the influx of people needing debt help in January, a charity says.

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) was braced for its busiest day on January 28, with the number of people phoning its free debt counselling expected to reach its annual peak.

Confirmation of these figures is not expected until May, however.

The Midlothian Centre, which is run in partnership with Penicuik South Church, gives a free face-to-face service where every client is seen in their own home.
