Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon visits Dalkeith to announce homes boost
Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon arrived in Dalkeith on March 5 to announce a funding package for new affordable homes.
The Scottish Government has injected an extra £707,000 into Midlothian Council’s housing budget.
The grant forms part of a wider package of £40 million awarded to councils throughout Scotland to help families into hundreds of new social homes.
Visiting a construction site at Kippielaw, where partners Melville Housing and Taylor Wimpey will deliver 20 social housing units, Ms Sturgeon said: “Quite simply, investing in new homes helps people into work by creating a jobs spin-off with the employment and training that takes place during construction.
“This funding illustrates that despite the 26 per cent cut to our capital budget by Westminster, the Scottish Government is determined to continue investing in new social housing.”
