Doubts over rail link are allayed

DOUBTERS’ fears about whether the Borders Rail link to Edinburgh will be re-opened have been laid to rest following an announcement by Network Rail last week.

The company has said it will invest £4bn on improving the rail infrastructure in Scotland including completing the 30 miles of railway line between Waverly and the Borders that was closed in the 1960s.

Midlothian MSP Christine Grahame (SNP), is delighted with the news.

She said: “To all of those people who said the line was going to be too costly to reinstate, I would say this should allay their fears and give a final assurance that trains will be returning to the region very soon.”
