The 2013 Alex Elrick Memorial Competition has been held at Lasswade High School Centre.

The contest is for classical singers aged 15 to 18 years.

Winner Erin Spence, a singer who attends high school in Anstruther, Fife, is pictured with the Alex Elrick Memorial Trophy, which she will keep for one year.

Erin will also benefit from £1000 towards her musical education after impressing adjudicators at the competiton last month.

The late Alex Elrick MBE was a former principal teacher of music at Lasswade. The competition was founded in 2010 by his family and by the Kevock Choir in memory of his founding of the choir, and for all of his work in encouraging so many in their enjoyment of music and, in particular, of singing.

Schools from throughout the Lothians, Fife and the Scottish Borders were involved.
