Fair Trade triumph

Bonnyrigg, Lasswade & Poltonhall has become the first zone in Midlothian to achieve Fair Trade Town status.

A number of goals must be met for an area to achieve Fair Trade status – products must be available in local shops and served in local cafes, and used by a number of work places.

Councillor Ian Baxter (Green), chairman of the local Fair Trade Steering Group, said: “It is a tremendous honour, however the schools are the real heroes, with local children showing extraordinary enthusiasm for Fair Trade.”
