Fifth of Midlothian children living in poverty

New figures reveal that almost a fifth of Midlothian children live in poverty.

A breakdown of county wards shows that 23 per cent of youngsters living in the Dalkeith council ward area live in poverty.

In Midlothian South, which takes in Newtongrange and Gorebridge, 21 per cent of the children are in poverty. A fifth of children in Midlothian East, covering Mayfield and Pathhead, are in a similar situation.

Fifteen per cent in the Bonnyrigg ward, 14 per cent in Penicuik, and 13 per cent in Midlothian West (Loanhead, Roslin and Bilston) live in poverty.
