Firefighter injured in Gorebridge blaze

A FIREFIGHTER was injured tackling a blaze in Gorebridge which is thought to have been set deliberately.

The derelict timber property at Powdermill Brae was set alight on Wednesday evening, uncovering dangerous asbestos in the roof.

It was the second time in less than a week that fire crews had been called out to the property.

Crews from Dalkeith and Liberton were called to the site at 8.40pm after reports of a fire in the roof space of the single storey building.

While tackling the blaze, a firefighter fell into an uncovered manhole which was concealed by overgrown undergrowth. He suffered scrapes and bruising to his leg and was taken by ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary to receive treatment but was released with only minor injuries.
