Flash mob hits Dalkeith store

Flash mob.

Flash mob.

A ‘flash mob’ at a Dalkeith supermarket has highlighted the link between fitness for the over 50s and preventing falls.

Shoppers at Tesco were bemused when ‘Build me up Buttercup’ by The Foundations was played to encourage dancing and exercises.

Organized via telecommunications, social media, or viral emails, flash mobs involve groups of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then quickly disperse, often for the purposes of entertainment, satire and artistic expression.

The stunt in Dalkieth was organised by Midlothian Council and NHS Lothian, to raise awareness of the benefits of exercise for older people.
