Get crafty at science festival

A SERIES of events combining the environment, science and art is to take place in Penicuik.

Organised by Centre of Ecology and Hydrology, based at the Bush Estate, there will be a focus on pollution and how it affects us workshops in the town hall on Saturdays March 10 and 17 from 10am to 2pm.

Through simple experiments, craft and story activities, participants will be asked why they should care about pollution and what they could do about it.

The events will include contributions from staff at the Centre of Ecology and Hydrology, and Edinburgh University students. Penicuik Community Arts Association’s Making Space will be involved in craft sessions. The events are open to all ages, and refreshments will be available at the Penicuik Community Development Trust coffee morning.

Two science talks will also take place in Penicuik Arts Centre. All the acitivities are to co-incide with National Science and Engineering Week, which this year explores “Our World in Motion”.

The developments at CERN will be discussed by Dr Andy Buckley on Saturday, March 10, and Dr Brian Miller, from the Institute of Occupational Medicine, will explore the effects of pollution on our health on Saturday, March 17. Both talks start at 7.30pm.

For tickets, contact Dr Susan Owen at susa1@ceh.ac.uk or on 07815 052 929.
