Go-ahead for controversial bid

A CONTROVERSIAL application for a house of multiple occupancy (HMO) licence was granted last week.

The applicant has agreed to councillors’ recommendations to operate a 24 hour phone line for local residents who had objected strongly to the application for an HMO at 54 Main Street, Gorebridge.

Applicant Ms Collins already operates such a property at 12 Main Street, but locals were worried at plans to extend number 54 from a two bedroom to three bedroom property, following a series of anti-social incidents there.

A report had been submitted on an out of hours service, agreed to by Ms Collins.

Councillor Bryan Pottinger (Lab) believes local people will be happy that they now have direct contact with the landlord for any future problems at either of the HMOs on Gorebridge Main Street.
