Gorebridge funding boost

GOREBRIDGE has scooped more than half a million pounds of Scottish Government funding to restore its historic heartland.
Midlothian Council has been awarded £548,500 through Historic Scotland’s Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS), one of 12 local authorities to benefit from the scheme.
In its application the council also pledged £50,000 to restore the conservation area in Gorebridge.
The CARS initiative aims to encourage local authorities to invest in their historic environment, whilst stimulating economic regeneration.
The project is something Gorebridge Community Development Trust chairman and community councillor Archie Pacey has wanted for a long time. He said: “It’s really good news that something is going to be done in Gorebridge.
“I have been at it for 20 years to restore the historic centre of Gorebridge, so I’m absolutely over the moon, it’s excellent news.
