Gorebridge planning row rumbles on

NEW council houses built towering over neighbouring properties in Gorebridge have prompted a planning row which has rumbled on for two years.

John Byrn, who owns The Tile Man ceramics business at Newtonloan Toll, claims that the houses behind his property were built two metres higher than plans allowed.

And after nearly two years trying to get answers from Midlothian Council, Mr Byrn is now requesting a meeting with chief executive Kenneth Lawrie and is considering taking his case to the Public Services Ombudsman.

Mr Byrn said: "Whilst building social houses is a laudable aim, they seem to be running roughshod over people's concerns. The whole thing is just like a farce. What we have is four blocks of houses that are considerably higher than what they have consent for. It would appear to me that this has been a genuine error - however, there has now been a massive campaign of confusion and covering up."

A Midlothian Council spokesman said: "We are investigating the queries raised by Mr Byrn in order to provide him with a full response."
